Where the skies are so blue

This is what Alabama looks like, in a nutshell: corn and cotton! At least where I was. I thought it was all really pretty. I like farms.

We visited FAME in Muscle Shoals.

And the Alabama Music Hall of Fame...

We went to Helen Keller's house. I learned some interesting things there.

We also visited this prehistoric Indian mound. It was actually really high up!

This McDonalds has been around for a long, long time! Before the days of Ronald McDonald. (Didn't actually eat there, but look at that little guy on the sign! So funny!)

And for some fun: this about sums up my 20 hours in the car.
I tried to get some outfit photos too, I'll share very soon.

Harper's Bazaar

Scans from various months of Harper's Bazaar 1949 by me

I'd like to introduce a little project I'll be sharing every week for a little while... (which I could never come up with a catchy name for). Last year for my history class, I had to do a lot of research in old Harper's Bazaar archives. I've got quite a bit of scans, and they have been very inspirational for me, so I thought I'd share them with you all. In general, I'll be sharing a spread from a specific issue, but to start out I thought I'd just share some miscellaneous shots to give you a taste. I apologize in advance that the quality isn't always great.
It's amazing how relevant magazines from the forties and fifties can still be: animal prints, simple dresses and chic haircuts, matching skirt and jacket combos (which looks a lot like one I snagged thrifting last week), and lovely lips and full skirts that are similar to the ones being seen all over the fall runway. I can't believe they only cost sixty cents!

Movies and Museums

Target v-neck, BDG skirt, vintage belt, Kimchi Blue metallic oxfords, misc. rings, sunglasses from Urban Outfitters

A little while ago I went to the $1.50 movie theater (two movies and $18 of candy from K-mart) and the Art Museum with my best friends. Unfortunately, we didn't realize that the museum is closed on Mondays! But we still had a ton of fun wandering around outside for awhile, till we realized that all our extra candy had melted. Oh well!
I'm glad to be wearing this skirt more often, because I like it, but it is such a difficult skirt. It's comfy, but see-through- so I have to wear a slip, which is annoying - plus I had to cut the slip shorter to fit this skirt. And as I've mentioned before, it's a little too big, therefore it almost always gets a belt. But even with all its negatives, I still really like this skirt. It's good for me to have some color in my wardrobe.
(And for those who notice the bandaid on my elbow, I had been to the doctor earlier that day and had to get some blood taken. I actually fainted, which was one of the weirdest experiences of my life, but also didn't make any sense because I've had blood taken before and I wasn't nervous at all this time. I don't understand it, but it really was a psychedelic experience.)

It's Circumstance

Vintage dress, vintage belt, really old heels

I don't know where the heels are from - they're seriously really old; I wore them to my eighth grade graduation. I snagged this dress from a consignment store in Atlanta on a visit there last year. I believe it was called Psycho Sisters. I've only worn this dress twice before (see one here).
Originally this was to be worn to a movie and dinner, but I ended up having to go check on my brother in the hospital after a car accident. Luckily, he was totally fine and only taken there as a precaution. I got hit on by a couple male nurses and a doctor while I was there, too.
I don't have a ton of pictures from Alabama, but I promise I'll share them soon. I haven't had the chance to upload them yet, but hopefully very very soon they'll be up. For now, I'm off to dinner with my best friends.

Une promenade en velo

Mother's old riding shirt, H&M shorts, Kimchi Blue metallic oxfords, vintage belt, vintage watch

I wore this out when I got my senior portraits taken (but not in any of my shots, although I considered it). I actually have a bit of outfit regret for the ones I did wear - the shirt I wanted was in the laundry and I didn't realize until it was too late! But I think they turned out well in the end, and I have no regrets about this outfit, I love it! It was comfy and classic, and since the shirt is made for horseback riding, it breathes in this crazy summer heat. I've been wearing it a lot lately!

Back in the day

DIY purple satin skirt, Nollie v-neck, dad's class ring as necklace

Here's an old outfit photo I found on my computer. I'm back from Alabama now! I'll share some pictures soon.

A Wednesday Afternoon

A couple of things, firstly - I'm leaving for Alabama tomorrow to visit family. I should be back at some time on Sunday. I'll see what I can do about getting an internet connection, but don't expect anything.
I'm also sorry about the weird posting lately, it's definitely because of summer. I'm spending a lot of my days - as I should be - in my PJs at home, so I don't have as many outfit posts for you. Don't worry, school's starting in just a couple weeks and things will be back to normal.
In the meantime, here's some mid/late-summer inspiration! Click a photo to go to its source.

Tights Tuesday

Maybe I'll make Tights Tuesday a thing during the school year. (Although, historically, it's always been Tall Socks Tuesday at my school, I doubt anyone will be continuing the tradition this year. You can probably expect me to attempt it once or twice though.)
Here's some tights I found browsing the Urban Outfitters website that I think are pretty sweet. The stars and stripes are thrown in just for fun - I think they're cute, but I'd probably never wear them if I had them. Where were they on the 4th of July?!
I'm looking forward to pulling my tights out again when it cools down. "Today's high is 91, right now it's 93" says the weatherman! Huh?

Snappin' her fingers and shufflin' her feet

Recently I've become more interested in streetstyle blogs. I love looking at outfits that other people put together, and how they wear it. My favorites are ones that I would never wear myself, but the person totally pulls off. I couldn't find my favorite examples, but here are a few, which you can click through to their sources. (Okay, you caught me, I'd definitely wear the last one.) Streetstyle is also nice because it's real people who are actually wearing this stuff out and about, not just dressing up in their backyard to take photos. Plus, it really shows that it's the details that make an outfit. Like the dusty blue socks in the fourth photo above. Stunning!

Meetup

Some photos from the awesome Tumblr meetup yesterday!

That's me second from the left. I actually already knew most of these kids. Only 3 new friends out of all these characters. Including Ari, the gorgeous girl next to me!

At the pizza place - Avery and I got really lost on the way. And I mean really lost.

My ring, courtesy of Jewelry Art Designs.

My friend Katie and her adorable dog Remy - he has a tumblr too, so he was invited!
